Dir Agri Kashmir visits High Altitude Fodder Seed Production Station Kongwatten

Kulgam: Director Agriculture, Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal visited one of the toughest terrain Fodder Seed Production Station Kongwatten, Kulgam which is situated at an altitude of 8400 ft above sea level.
During the visit Director Agriculture took a thorough review of the working of the farm at different levels, enquired about different varieties of the fodder crops being cultivated at the farm and inspected various sections of the farm.
Chowdhary Iqbal urged upon the employees working in the farm to adopt modern trends and techniques in the Farm. He directed the Manager SM Farm to ensure an increase in production of fodder seeds which in turn will put brakes in Fodder crises in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed upon the importance of quality fodder seeds. He further added that efforts are on to make Seed Multiplication Farms and Fodder Seed Production Stations of the Department as revenue and employment generating assets.
The Director was briefed by Assistant Agrostologist Kashmir, Mujtaba Yahya regarding various developmental activities and latest technological initiatives taken up by the Farm management to boost the quality of Fodder Seed Production at the farm. He apprised the Director regarding various constraints in the working of the farm, as the farm is inaccessible, being on a very high altitude without proper road connectivity and other basic facilities.
Pertinent to mention that the FSPS farm is in the Agrostology Scheme, which spreads over an area of 17 hectares. At FSPS Kongwatten seed production of fodder crops like Red Clover, Timothy Grass, Tall Fescue etc is taken up on the modern scientific lines.
Director Agriculture was accompanied by Deputy Director Planning M. Younis Chowdhary, Assistant Agrostologit Kashmir Mujtaba Yahya, Potato Development Officer Kashmir Waheed Ur Rehman and Incharge Manager FSPS Rayees Ahmad.
