RAMBAN: Continuing the enforcement drive to implement Covid protocol across the district Ramban, the Enforcement teams today fined scores of violators for roaming without wearing face masks and not maintaining physical distance. The enforcement teams, during the inspection in their respective jurisdictions, recovered a fine of Rs 39,200 taking the total amount fined since April 1, 2021 to Rs. 34, 78, 950. Srinagar: Police have arrested a drug peddler in Handwara and recovered contraband substance from his possession. Officers from Police Post Zachaldara at a checkpoint established at Sultanpora bridge intercepted a person in a suspicious condition who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Sultan resident of Lachipora. During checking, officers were able to recover 190 grams of charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody. The Anti polythene drive was conducted in ward 16 soura upto buchpora. 30 kgs of polythene was recovered from shopkeepers, and vendors which were destroyed on the spot. Similarly in ward 24 Bemina 25 kg polythene was seized from various vendors and shopkeepers during the Anti Polythene drive. Jammu, July 19 An alleged drug peddler, carrying 10-kg poppy husk, was arrested in Udhampur district on Monday. A police team intercepted a truck on the highway at Jakhani Chowk for checking from which the consignment was seized. 123 new Covid cases, 1 death in JK

Srinagar/Leh, July 19 Jamp;K recorded 123 fresh Covid cases and one death on Monday, taking the tally and fatalities to 3,20,024 and 4,365 respectively, officials said. Of the new cases, 51 were from the Jammu division and 72 from the Kashmir division of the UT. The active cases have dropped to 1,773 as 3,13,886 people have recovered so far. Ladakh reported 11 new Covid cases. The UT's tally has reached 20,257. As many as 19,948 patients have recovered. Out of the fresh cases, eight were reported from Leh and three from Kargil. The active cases have come down to 103. — PTI

New Delhi, July 19 The Centre has made an outreach to workers engaged in construction of strategic roads and other infrastructure at Zoji La Pass, Kargil and Dras bordering China to review their working conditions and implementation of labour laws and new labour codes. The Union Labour Minister has sent a team led by Chief Labour Commissioner and Director General, Labour Bureau, DPS Negi to Ladakh. The Labour Ministry is also reviewing the campaign to sensitise stakeholders to the labour laws. Negi held meetings with workers, contractors and officials of the BRO and the NHIDCL. — TNS
