PM launches RBI’s scheme to ensure retail participation in gilts, strengthen financial inclusion

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched two customer-centric schemes with a view to strengthen financial inclusion by ensuring participation of small retail investors in the government securities market as well as to improve grievance redressal mechanism. The launch of these two schemes — Reserve Bank’s Retail Direct Scheme and Integrated Ombudsman Scheme — will expand investment opportunities in the country and ensure easier access to capital markets with simple and secure mechanism, he said while launching schemes through video conferencing. At the same time, he said, Retail Direct Scheme will also help in garnering funds for development works. Gold jumps Rs 883; silver rallies Rs 1,890

New Delhi: Gold in the national capital on Thursday jumped Rs 883 to Rs 48,218 per 10 gram in line with the firm global trends and rupee depreciation, according to HDFC Securities. In the previous trade, the precious metal had settled at Rs 47,335 per 10 grams. Silver also rallied Rs 1,890 to Rs 65,190 per kilogram from Rs 63,300 per kilogram in the previous trade. The rupee depreciated by 18 paise to end at 74.52 (provisional) against the US currency on Thursday. Excise duty cut on petrol, diesel is significantly positive for inflation: RBI Governor

Mumbai: The recent decision of the central government to cut the excise duty on diesel and petrol is significantly positive for inflation, Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Wednesday. He said food inflation is now under control, but core inflation continues to remain elevated. That (excise duty cut on petrol and diesel) is significantly positive for inflation, Das said. Inflation in India is mainly caused due to the supply-side factors, which have been addressed by the government, he added.
